The Monte
Coastal, rural, tasteful and serene, Monte da Moita Nova is a whitewashed traditional family owned and run horse farm. Over one hundred years old with thick clay walls, it is just a stone’s throw from the Atlantic ocean and a 10 minute walk to a small village. With four sunny guest cottages, sleeping up to a total of sixteen guests, the farm is surrounded by pasture lands used for grazing our nine horses alongside a growing herd of goats.

Monte de Moita Nova is unique in that while you face the stunning rugged raw natural beauty of the coast with its cliffs and beach coves, you are surrounded by the feeling of community offered by a serene farming village. The village was originally made up of about seven families including ours on Antonio’s side. On the other side, is American born Diana, who settled here some thirty years ago after growing up in several different countries. Running Monte da Moita Nova, daughters Sara and Liliana, bring together the best of traditional local knowledge with the best of contemporary comforts.
The Cottages
We have four sunny white washed guest cottages with traditionally cane finished ceilings and wood-burning fireplaces, as well as fully equipped kitchens with hand-painted tiles and locally crafted features throughout. The style of the cottages is simple and cozy but the details, such as the bespoke tiles, the soaps made exclusively for us by a local female artisan, and the bedding, are all luxurious.
200 meters from the ocean and nestled in the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Natural Park, our working horse farm exemplifies the Alentejano style.
Breakfast in the sun, relax on your back porch or play with the children on the grassy lawns. Grab a towel and take a short walk to the beach. The property is embraced on three sides by horses grazing in fields that stretch to the coastal dunes. Don’t miss a walk along the award-winning Fisherman's Trail with its spectacular views.

The Stables
Nestled between the stunning seacoast and countryside of the Portuguese province of Alentejo, Monte da Moita Nova stands as an inviting sanctuary for equestrian enthusiasts and horse lovers alike. Due to their unique training and specialized handling, the horses are docile and well-behaved; they live outdoors in a family herd, feed off the pastures, and are kept barefoot to ensure their wellbeing
Whether you're a novice seeking to embark on an equine journey or an experienced rider aiming to refine your expertise and connection, the Moita stable’s comprehensive programs cater to diverse skill levels and aspirations.​ For the little ones, we have a dedicated riding program and daily groom, care, and cuddles.
